About CJ Knight
I believe all conscious people learn. The smallest baby quickly learns that different cries elicit different responses from someone, and his needs are met. That same baby learns to manipulate both his own response and that of others as he explores and learns about his own world. As a teacher, my role is to help a child to “learn how to learn.” It is my role to encourage the development of specific skills and to show the child how those skills help him live more productively. I inspire the student to wonder, investigate, experiment and discover. Those qualities will lead to advancements in technology and scientific understandings. We live in a global community, and most of what we know right now will likely be obsolete when today’s children enter the workforce. For example, when I went to school, there were nine known planets. Today, I teach there are only eight, and then I teach the parents why that is. Much of what a student will be required to understand and know has not yet been discovered. But by encouraging a child’s native wonder, I can help that child integrate the necessary capacity to learn to adjust to new paradigms. How can we teach our children to be ready for the future? We teach them to think, evaluate, analyze and apply. I believe that if I teach a child to learn through investigation, wonder and experimentation, and teach him to think through evaluation, analysis and application, I have done my job well.
